February Tag Questions
Hello again everyone! February has been a crazy month, still I was able to meet my original goal of 8 period dramas, and upped it to 12-15. I'm so pleased to have watched both of the period films that I was most excited to watch (see here), plus a couple others that I really enjoyed. Here are the tag questions from Miss Laurie of Old Fashioned Charm who is hosting this awesome challenge.
1. What period dramas have you watched in February?
This month I watched The Princess Bride, Secondhand Lions, Persuasion, The Mask of Zorro, and Emma (2009). The first four were all borrowed from amazing friends, and the fifth from YouTube.
2. How many Charles Dickens adaptations have you seen?
This is pretty bad, but I've only ever seen two versions of his Oliver Twist.... an older version (can't remember which one it was) and Oliver!
I love this musical version. Probably one of the first musicals I saw as a little girl and it is one of the culprits of my love of musicals.
Also, just remembered, have seen a couple of versions of A Christmas Carol, but none that really impressed me... It's been a while.
I do have every intention of getting my hands on David Copperfield, Great Expectations, and Little Dorrit. Particularly Little Dorrit. Perhaps I'll be able to see it during this Period Drama Challenge, and you'll get a chance to read my review. :)

3. Do you prefer heroes that are spotless wealthy gentlemen or gritty hardworking men?
This is a really tricky question (Miss Laurie has a lot of those.... :P). Petie from All Things Bright and Beautiful asked this question a while ago on her blog... this is how I answered:
There is a certain charm about the rich, dashing fellow. I don’t find their money particularly attractive, but perhaps it is the fact that their clothes are always just so, they always know just what to say, and they have a mysterious air about them. But I do like the hard-working, rugged fellow too. Like you said, a man that works hard to provide is quite attractive. I just watched North and South the other day and I really like John Thornton. Right now, he is my favourite PD hero; but there is something about Nicholas Higgins that shines ‘hero’. To me it is the character that matters. I don’t care if the fellow is rich or poor… if he has the character of a gentleman, he’s a gem.

4. Do you tend to prefer heroines that are sweet and gentle or adventurous and spunky?
LOL! Another tricky question... and I think I'm going to go against the cultural norm and answer 'sweet and gentle'. The heroine that is sweet and gentle always impresses me with her selflessness and her expression of Biblical womanhood.
One of my very favourite period drama heroines is Elinor Dashwood from Sense and Sensibility. Her character is so quiet and selfless that I finish watching that movie with great admiration for her as she is rational and sensible of her love of Edward, yet does not do anything stupid when she realized she might lose him.
Of course, in saying that, my other two favourite PD heroines are Marguerite Blakeney from The Scarlet Pimpernel and Margaret Hale from North and South. These young women are sweet and gentle, but with a fire in them that comes out when they see others being hurt....
So I guess a healthy combination of the two is best. In my humble opinion. :)

5. Do you enjoy listening to period drama soundtracks? Do you own any?
The only ones I've ever really listened to are Pride and Prejudice (2005), Miss Potter, and War Horse. I really enjoyed them... As much as I disliked certain thinks about P&P05, they had amazing music from that movie. The same for Miss Potter and War Horse... really incredible music (and films :D).
I don't own any period drama soundtracks, but I would love to.....
